HSBC launches Hong Kong dollar stablecoin for retail payments

HSBC has launched its first Hong Kong-dollar stablecoin, RedCoin (RCHKD), enabling transfers and merchant payments for more than 3.3 million PayMe users, with one-for-one redemption for Hong Kong dollars and custody through HSBC Digital Assets Custody. The rollout follows HSBC and Anchorpoint Financial becoming the first firms licensed under Hong Kong’s stablecoin framework and Anchorpoint’s August launch of HKDAP. HSBC plans to add RedCoin wallets to its HK Mobile Banking App later this year for tokenized investment subscriptions, including a new share class of its Hong Kong-dollar money market fund, and to expand into wholesale corporate and institutional uses.

Bitcoin Core changes security policy as AI makes bugs easier to find

Bitcoin Core is updating its security vulnerability policy because large language models have made some software flaws much easier to rediscover, reducing the benefit of long disclosure embargoes. Under the new policy, vulnerabilities deemed “easily discoverable,” such as through a simple LLM prompt, will be fixed as soon as possible across all maintained major versions, with security advisories published alongside the updates. Other vulnerabilities will continue to follow severity-based disclosure schedules, as AI-assisted security research increasingly pressures developers across Bitcoin’s software ecosystem.

Ethereum delays Glamsterdam Hoodi testnet launch over security risks

Ethereum developers have postponed the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Hoodi testnet, originally scheduled for Oct. 26, after ChainSecurity warned that two proposals, EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, could weaken safeguards against “insufficient gas griefing” and let smart contracts continue running after failed operations. ChainSecurity said it found 13 real-world examples of potentially affected contracts and is coordinating responsible disclosure with the affected projects, while warning developers to review their gas-related security checks. The delay raises uncertainty over Glamsterdam’s mainnet timeline, which developers had been targeting for early December pending successful Hoodi testing.

Bitcoin circles $81.5K ETF cost basis as Trump Iran comments send stocks lower

Bitcoin fell about 3% Thursday, trading near $81,256 and staying below $82,000 as President Trump’s Iran comments fueled risk-off sentiment. US stocks opened lower, with the S&P 500 down 1.3% and Nasdaq down 2.3% as tech stocks faced renewed AI valuation fears.

BTC was circling the roughly $81,500 cost basis of US spot Bitcoin ETFs after nearing $85,000 a day earlier. Bitfinex Alpha expects a $81,300–$84,400 range until the Fed’s Oct. 28 meeting, warning a close below $81,300 could risk a drop toward $79,821.
