Standard Chartered adds Ripple USD custody, eyes LMAX collateral deal

Standard Chartered has launched institutional custody for Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin on the XRP Ledger through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch, giving eligible clients access to its digital asset custody infrastructure. The bank also plans to extend its collateral-mirroring model to LMAX Group, letting institutions use RLUSD as trading collateral while the tokens remain in Standard Chartered’s custody, potentially reducing transfer risks and counterparty exposure. The added collateral capabilities remain subject to final documentation, testing, regulatory requirements, and internal approvals.

South Korean bank launches Bitcoin-backed business loans: Report

South Korea’s Jeonbuk Bank has reportedly become the first commercial bank in the country to offer Bitcoin-backed, won-denominated loans to corporate customers, limiting the service to businesses seeking operational capital while a third-party custodian holds the BTC collateral. The move follows October 1 amendments to South Korea’s Civil Enforcement Rules that establish procedures for seizing and liquidating claims to virtual assets, allowing the bank to recover funds through court-ordered crypto sales in case of default. Although the bank has not disclosed loan amounts, interest rates, or loan-to-value terms, a representative said it has already issued one such loan without identifying the borrower.

Global watchdog flags stablecoin risks, AI threats ahead of G20

The Financial Stability Board warned G20 finance ministers and central bank governors that cross-border stablecoin oversight and crisis management remain underdeveloped, noting only 11 of 28 surveyed jurisdictions have finalized stablecoin rules and that runs could spill into traditional markets via forced reserve sales and bank deposit withdrawals. In a letter ahead of Thursday’s meeting, FSB Chair Andrew Bailey also urged G20 members to back the watchdog’s newly finalized practices for responsible AI adoption, cautioning that AI-enabled cyber threats could undermine critical financial institutions and market infrastructure.

BTC price support holds ahead of US CPI data: Three things Bitcoin traders need to know this week

Bitcoin is defending key weekly support near $82,500 as traders brace for U.S. inflation data. September CPI and PPI are due Wednesday and Thursday, with CPI expected to rise to 3.7% year-on-year. A cooler-than-expected reading could reduce Fed tightening fears and support BTC, while markets price only an 18.8% chance of an Oct. 28 rate hike.

BTC’s weekly close around $83,700 left it down 3.2% for the week, but it avoided a return to the old $60,000–$80,000 range. Analysts say holding $82,500 keeps the bullish support-retest scenario alive and could encourage reaccumulation. Oil and geopolitical headlines remain secondary influences for now.
