France proposes liability for crypto exchanges offering DeFi accessFrance has proposed revising the EU’s MiCA framework to hold crypto exchanges liable for certain DeFi-related customer losses if they fail to vet protocols or ignore known security risks. Under the plan, regulated platforms would need to assess and monitor DeFi protocols before offering access, support certification of protocols and smart contracts, and provide enhanced risk disclosures for uncertified protocols, with scaled obligations for smaller providers. France also backed shifting supervision of “significant CASPs” to ESMA, lowering the current 15 million daily active user threshold, and reviewing MiCA’s ART category while adapting EMT rules for multicurrency stablecoins.

Malaysia central bank launches DLT platform for tokenized bondsMalaysia’s central bank (BNM) has launched a distributed ledger-based platform, SSDS+, for issuing, holding, and safekeeping tokenized debt securities including sukuk, tracking ownership and transfers while connecting to its RENTAS+ system to settle payments in central bank money. The system is designed for wholesale issuance but is also ready to support tokenized government and corporate retail bonds, though BNM did not name any issued securities or disclose volumes. The rollout follows BNM’s three-year asset tokenization roadmap and earlier tests of ringgit stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits with major banks.

Bitwise, Hyperliquid seek SEC rule changes for token trading, airdropsBitwise Asset Management and the Hyperliquid Policy Center submitted comment letters urging the SEC to revise its proposed crypto rules for clearer guidance on token classification, airdrops, secondary-market trading, safe harbors, and buybacks. Their requests came as the SEC closed public comments Tuesday on proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, which would create fundraising exemptions and a conditional safe harbor for tokens tied to investment contracts. In contrast, former SEC enforcement official John Reed Stark and Duke’s Lee Reiners urged the SEC to withdraw the proposal entirely, arguing it exceeds statutory authority, weakens investor protections, and would likely face immediate legal challenge. The SEC will now review submissions before deciding whether to revise, adopt, or withdraw the rules, with no final-decision timetable announced.

Agents can trade 24/7 — but Yat Siu warns you could lose access at any timeAnimoca Brands’ Yat Siu says AI agents can monitor markets and trade 24/7, helping crypto users catch opportunities while they sleep. But he warns against relying on bots you don’t control: one agent can get confused handling too many tasks, so specialized agents work better, and shared models may reduce any trading edge. Siu also stresses privacy and continuity. Treat agents like third-party advisers, share only necessary data, and keep human input through guiding questions. Because a provider can suspend access or disappear—taking years of learned preferences—users should at least be able to download and transfer their data to another agent.
