Germany widens MiCA lead as latest EU register update adds 6 banksGermany has strengthened its leading position under the EU’s MiCA regulations, now accounting for 79 authorized crypto asset service providers after six cooperative banks were added in the latest ESMA register update. This puts Germany far ahead of France (35) and the Netherlands (29), with the new additions including banks like Raiffeisenbank Aidlingen and Volksbank Backnang. According to German regulator BaFin, this lead reflects the country’s large financial sector and pre-existing national licensing rules, which simplified the transition to MiCA for many firms.

Pakistan opens crypto licensing portal, sets Sept. 5 deadline for existing firmsPakistan has officially opened its crypto licensing portal, requiring all existing virtual asset service providers (VASPs) to apply for a no-objection certificate (NOC) by September 5 or face ceasing operations. The new regulatory framework, enforced by the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), covers exchanges, custody, lending, and other services, offering both a sandbox and NOC pathway for compliance. This move shifts Pakistan’s crypto market from legislation to active enforcement, with some firms like Binance and HTX already receiving preliminary approvals.

Term Finance loses estimated $8.5M in vault governance exploitTerm Finance lost an estimated $8.5 million after an attacker exploited governance control of its Meta Vaults, draining about 2,843 Ether and 1.68 million USDC—representing roughly 68% of the vault’s total holdings. In response, Term permanently closed all Meta Vaults, revoked their DAO governance roles, and kept withdrawals open while confirming the underlying lending protocol was unaffected. The attacker apparently acquired a majority of a sparsely held governance token to pass malicious proposals, but Term has not yet detailed how voting control was obtained.

Bitcoin ETF inflows hit $1.9B in strongest week since October 2025US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $1.92 billion in net inflows last week, their strongest weekly performance in nearly 10 months, according to SoSoValue data. Bitcoin briefly surpassed $78,000 on Friday after climbing over 20% from a weekly start near $63,000, per CoinGecko. Ether ETFs also brought in roughly $700 million, with analysts noting both funds posted their best week since October 2025. The surge marks a rebound after a rough start to 2026, with Bitcoin ETFs still down $2.91 billion in net outflows year-to-date. Heavy withdrawals in May and June were followed by $2.38 billion in August inflows, making it the strongest month so far this year. BlackRock’s IBIT led the charge with $1.33 billion in inflows, though Bitcoin remains about 38% below its October peak near $124,700.
