Rushed CLARITY Act vote could set legislation back, Gallego warnsSenator Ruben Gallego warned that rushing the CLARITY Act to a Senate vote could set U.S. crypto market structure legislation back, urging the industry to push for continued negotiations rather than a fast vote. He noted that the White House has not provided point-by-point feedback on a bipartisan ethics compromise needed to secure Democratic support. Gallego cautioned that premature movement on the bill, which still needs its Agriculture Committee portion assembled and House strategy determined, could harm its chances.

Trump pushes for CLARITY Act passage alongside crypto leadersPresident Trump urged the Senate to pass the CLARITY Act, a crypto market structure bill, during a White House meeting with industry executives, saying it would keep the US “ahead of China.” The bill has stalled in the Senate over concerns including tokenized equities and potential conflicts of interest, though Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong predicted it could secure over 60 votes. Senator Ruben Gallego dismissed Trump’s call for a “fair version” of the bill, suggesting the president meant fair “to him.”

OCC head promises final GENIUS rules by NovemberThe OCC will finalize rules implementing the GENIUS Act by November, according to Comptroller Jonathan Gould, speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium. The agency’s 376-page proposal, released in February, will be finalized ahead of the law’s January 2027 effective date, with applications from stablecoin issuers expected to be processed starting in 2027. Gould’s timeline comes as other agencies also work to meet the January 18 deadline to finalize regulations under the stablecoin framework, which was signed into law in July 2025.

200,000 fake AI ‘victims’ deployed to scam bait online fraudstersAustralian tech firm Apate deploys 200,000 AI “victims” that pose as gullible targets to waste scammers’ time. The bots handle hundreds of thousands of calls and chats daily, stringing fraudsters along so they can’t scam real people. One of its key performance metrics is counting how many times frustrated scammers swear at the bots — a measure founder Dali Kaafar says is unique to his company. In a six-week period for one telco alone, the bots wasted over 500 days of scammers’ time, saving an estimated $13 million. The idea came to Kaafar when he received a scam call during a picnic and spent 44 minutes playing along, to his kids’ delight. He later built Apate with university funding, and the company now works with major banks worldwide. The bots also extract intelligence like crypto wallet addresses and banking tactics, helping firms stay ahead of fraud. With scammers increasingly using AI themselves, Kaafar believes defensive AI has the strategic advantage — citing game theory that favors defenders extracting data from attackers.
