While supporters cite faster settlement and broader market access, some SEC officials and Securitize have warned that issuer-less tokenization could fragment markets and leave investors uncertain about valuations.

Echo Protocol’s eBTC exploited for $77M in admin key compromise

Echo Protocol’s synthetic Bitcoin asset eBTC was exploited on Monad after an attacker compromised an admin private key and minted roughly 1,000 unauthorized eBTC worth about $77 million, prompting Echo to suspend all cross-chain transactions while it investigates. The attacker has begun laundering funds—routing some through Curvance, bridging to Ethereum, swapping into ETH, and sending a portion to Tornado Cash—while still holding about 955 eBTC (around $73 million). Reports indicate the issue was operational rather than a smart-contract bug, enabled by weak admin controls such as a single-signature admin role, no timelock, and no minting limits.

Swan Bitcoin sued for nearly $1B over pre-bankruptcy transfers from Prime Trust

Swan Bitcoin is being sued by Prime Trust’s post-bankruptcy litigation trust, which claims Swan used insider access to withdraw nearly $1 billion in Bitcoin and cash from the custodian shortly before Prime Trust’s 2023 bankruptcy. The complaint alleges a Prime Trust senior executive—also a paid adviser to Swan—shared nonpublic information ahead of regulatory meetings, after which Swan rapidly pulled assets including about 11,994 BTC and $24.6 million in cash. The suit seeks to claw back the transfers as preferential and fraudulent under bankruptcy law and to block Swan from making future claims against the estate until repayment.

Retail Bitcoin investor demand falls by 73% as futures selling tops $2B: Are the bears back?

Bitcoin retail activity on Binance has dropped to record lows, with monthly inflows from wallets holding under 1 BTC averaging about 314 BTC in 2026 versus roughly 1,200 BTC in March 2024. CryptoQuant data also shows retail demand growth cooling sharply, with 30-day net demand growth down 73% in recent weeks as Bitcoin slipped below $77,000. Analysts suggest some of this decline may reflect retail investors shifting from exchanges to spot Bitcoin ETFs.

At the same time, futures markets are showing heavy selling pressure: Binance saw two major spikes in taker sell volume, around $1.5B and $1.1B, during the latest downturn. Analysts note the recovery looks weaker than past rallies because spot demand has stayed negative for 65 straight days even as futures demand remains positive. Adding to the shift, Binance’s share of global USDT-margined futures volume fell to 21.1% in May 2026 while OKX rose to 26.3%.
