Binance taps half its SAFU Bitcoin holdings, releases reserve proofBinance’s SAFU Bitcoin wallet has fallen to about 7,500 BTC after a 7,499 BTC transfer tied to covering losses from Thursday’s $6.3 billion hack, with no timeline given for restoring the $1 billion fund. The exchange has reopened withdrawals in phases and says it has replenished about 95% of affected assets using its corporate treasury, SAFU, and part of its futures insurance fund, while the FBI attributed the attack to North Korea’s TraderTraitor hackers. Binance also released a proof-of-reserves snapshot showing customer holdings in 10 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether, and USDT, were backed at least 1:1, with another snapshot planned for Wednesday. |

FATF targets crypto hubs in review of money laundering controlsThe FATF is launching a targeted review of jurisdictions with materially important virtual asset service provider activity to address gaps in how governments apply global anti-money laundering standards, though it has not named the jurisdictions or said how many will be included. Initial findings are due in June 2027, with further results in October 2027, followed by monitoring and faster reporting. The move follows a July FATF report finding that 83% of surveyed jurisdictions had adopted crypto Travel Rule legislation, but enforcement gaps persisted, including 55 of 91 jurisdictions with Travel Rule laws having taken no supervisory or enforcement action. |

Hong Kong takes tokenized settlement to 24/7, plans stablecoin trialsHong Kong’s HKMA has advanced its Project Ensemble/EnsembleTX pilot to enable 24/7 real-value settlement of tokenized transactions using tokenized central bank money, moving beyond conventional settlement hours. The regulator also completed secondary-market trials in tokenized Exchange Fund Bills and plans to bring regulated stablecoins into tokenized government debt trials. Separately, HSBC said its Hong Kong dollar stablecoin RedCoin reached 50,000 users about 10 days after launch and is targeting multi-million users as it expands retail payments and tokenized-investment access. |

AI agent disputes head to ‘Internet Court’ — and a jury of AI agentsGenLayer’s Internet Court is a new dispute-resolution protocol for conflicts between AI agents and humans, using escrowed contracts and juries of randomly selected validators that each run a different AI model. Initial juries of five can escalate through appeals to as many as 1,500 models, aiming for fast, cheap, neutral decisions; the beta handles about 12,000 judgments daily, with mainnet expected next month. The system is already used for tasks like verifying user photos on Collective Memory and settling debates on argue.fun, and GenLayer sees promise in “intelligent contracts” and faster prediction-market disputes. But AI judgment remains limited by immature technology, model biases, and possible groupthink if models converge; decisions can still be appealed to human or other dispute systems. |
