Gnosis Executes Hard Fork to Recover Funds From $116M Balancer Exploit

Gnosis has rewritten history to claw back hacked funds. After a November exploit drained about $116 million from Balancer-managed contracts on Gnosis Chain, validators first adopted a soft fork, then moved to a full hard fork to recover assets that had moved beyond the attacker's control. In a notice to node operators and an update on X, Gnosis said the hard fork, executed on Monday, recovered at least part of the stolen funds. For affected users, this is a rare win in a landscape where exploits usually end in permanent loss.

For everyone else, it raises the same uncomfortable tradeoff: how much protocol intervention are we willing to accept in return for "fixing" the ledger when things go wrong.

DWF Labs steps into physical gold

One of crypto's most active market makers is now trading something you can hold in your hand. DWF Labs has settled its first physical gold transaction, a 25-kilogram bar that managing partner Andrei Grachev described as a test tranche. The firm says it plans to scale into physical silver, platinum and even cotton, pushing deeper into commodities at a time when bullion prices keep setting record highs.

For a crypto-native shop, this move links order books for tokens and metals in a way traditional dealers have not.

The Trump administration's first year set a new tone for US crypto policy, but the real impact will show up in 2026. Enforcement actions against some crypto firms have been dropped, a stablecoin bill has become law and key agencies now have leadership that talks about rulebooks instead of only lawsuits. For the United States, that means 2026 could turn into a sorting mechanism: projects that fit within the new structure will compete for mainstream capital, while those that do not risk getting boxed out of regulated markets.
