Japanese public company Metaplanet said its fiscal 2025 revenue surged 738% to 8.9 billion yen ($58 million) after pivoting to Bitcoin-focused income operations, which now generate about 95% of revenue largely via BTC options premium income. Despite roughly $40 million in operating profit, it posted a $619 million net loss because accounting rules forced it to mark down its large Bitcoin reserves amid a price drop. The firm has rapidly expanded its holdings to 35,102 BTC, raised over $3.2 billion to support its strategy, and forecasts further growth next year while maintaining its Bitcoin-first approach.

A report says ECB President Christine Lagarde is considering leaving before her term ends in 2027, a move that could reshape the leadership transition and influence how the bank communicates and prioritizes its digital agenda. Her potential exit comes as the EU approaches key decisions on the digital euro and as the ECB continues warning about stablecoin and crypto-related risks even under MiCA. While the ECB denies any decision has been made, officials expect the digital euro regulation to be adopted in 2026, enabling a pilot in 2027 and possible issuance around 2029.

New Bitcoin whales are trapped underwater, but for how long?

Bitcoin is trading below $68,000, widening the gap between "new" (short-term) and "old" (long-term) whale cohorts. Short-term whales—large holders who bought more recently—are underwater, with a realized price around $88,494 and roughly 22% unrealized losses, while long-term whales sit comfortably in profit with a realized price near $41,626 and about 65% gains.

Data also hints at rising whale-related sell pressure. Binance's whale inflow ratio jumped from 0.4 to 0.62 in two weeks, suggesting more large-holder deposits to the exchange, while long-term holder SOPR dipped below 1 (0.88), indicating some coins are being sold at a loss—though longer-term averages remain profitable. Analysts say BTC holding above ~$41,626 would look more like redistribution than capitulation, but long-term holder profitability metrics suggest another dip may be needed before a classic cycle bottom forms.
