Bitcoin ETFs draw $2B in April for highest monthly inflows this year

US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $1.97 billion in net inflows in April—their strongest month of 2026—alongside a 12% rise in Bitcoin prices, despite about $490 million in late-month outflows. BlackRock’s IBIT led the gains with roughly $2 billion in inflows, while Grayscale’s GBTC saw about $280 million in outflows, bringing year-to-date net inflows for Bitcoin ETFs to around $1.47 billion and cumulative inflows since launch to more than $58 billion. The strength also spilled into some altcoin funds, with Ether ETFs posting their first monthly inflow since October 2025 and XRP, Dogecoin, and Solana ETFs also seeing April inflows.

Brazil bars crypto settlement in regulated cross-border payment rails

Brazil’s central bank has issued Resolution BCB No. 561 barring the use of virtual assets, including crypto and stablecoins, to settle transactions within Brazil’s regulated eFX cross-border payment framework. Under the new rule, eFX providers must settle payments and receipts with foreign counterparties only via traditional foreign exchange transactions or through non-resident Brazilian real accounts, including during a transition period for firms seeking authorization by May 31, 2027. The move isn’t a blanket ban on crypto in Brazil, but it closes a key regulated channel to keep cross-border flows within supervised FX rails amid rising stablecoin use and related concerns over taxation, money laundering, and monetary sovereignty.

US Senate bans itself from betting on prediction markets

The US Senate unanimously approved a rule change that immediately bans senators and their staff from participating in prediction markets, citing the risk of trading on sensitive information and eroding public trust. The move follows heightened scrutiny after a soldier was charged with using classified information to bet on Polymarket, and as lawmakers raise concerns about bets tied to major geopolitical events. Senate leaders framed the ban as a commonsense step to prevent Congress from “turning into a casino,” while a similar measure is expected in the House and major prediction platforms publicly backed the decision.

The CFTC is suing New York, Connecticut, Arizona and Illinois, arguing that states can’t apply gambling laws to prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket.
